I checked out a CD from the public library and listened to it on my computer. Then I dragged two songs into my iTunes library. Is this illegal, since that's loaned stuff?

Yes, it is illegal, unless the copyright of the CD allows for making unlimited copies.

yes it's illegal. But you can do that still, and tell nobody.

It's an illegal violation of copyright. That must be against library rules, if you read them.
