In some cases you can directly copy the files. But sometimes the DVD are protected, you can not copy it, or you cannot play it even you've copied it to your computer. So goes to some professional DVD ripper programs will save your ass.

Hi, if you need to save the DVD to video format (mp4,avi,mov, etc.) to your computer, you need a DVD ripper: http://www.imelfin.com/dvd-ripper.html
If you just want to save the original DVD files to your computer for keeping the best original quality, you need a DVD Copy software: http://www.imelfin.com/dvd-copy.html
