I want to transfer itunes music from my old desktop to my new laptop. I have both purchased songs from Itunes and free songs downloaded from limewire and the like, will transfer software transfer all of the music to my laptop?

Maybe you can try an iTunes Backup program.
This kind of software is good at iTunes
backup/recover/transfer.

You can try imElfin iTransfer, which allows you to transfer different types of content, including purchased and download music from iTunes to an iOS device, and vice versa. iPhone 5s and iOS7 has now been supported. And it is indeed easy to operate.

step 1. Connect your iPad (or iPhone, etc.) to your desktop, transfer iTunes music to your iOS with imElfin iTransfer.
step 2. Connect your iOS to the new laptop, using iTransfer to transfer music files from your iOS to the laptop.
