You could try some dvd ripper, like freemake, then use iMovie or Quicktime to play.

DVD Copy for Mac can copy DVD movie with the entire DVD movie in 1:1 ratio perfectly in the cases of copying DVD-5 to DVD-5, DVD-9 to DVD-9, DVD-5 to DVD-9; and compress DVD-9 (dual-layer DVD) to one DVD-5 disc easily. It also allows you copying DVD’s main movie only.

In your case, you will need a DVD ripper to rip video off your DVD disc on Mac. imElfin DVD ripper for Mac is easy, fast and functional, allowing you to rip DVD in different output formats like mov, mp4 or dedicated devices such as iPad, iPhone, xBox, etc.
