Hi my parents usually rent movies at night and they want to watch there movie first and by then the time is late. So i want to copy the DVD files and watch it on my computer and then delete the copy files ,cause my HDD is small. This is for personal use only i do not want to give copies to my friend as that will hurt the DVD rental economy.

It is OK to do so but you need to try some DVD Ripper software to help you remove the DVD protections.
Any DVD Cloner Platinum is recommended. I keep it for about one year. It works well. The program supports to clone the movie DVD discs to blank discs or DVD folder. The most important is that it can help to convert the DVD to my other digital devices such as iPad. It also provides many other options.

Then as you said above,it is ok for U. Get one dvd ripper software to help you convert the dvd movie to you computer.Currently you should prepare handbrake or imelfin dvd ripper( one kind of dvd ripper). If the movie has no protection, you can use both.If has, just use the latter. As i know, handbrake seems can't rip the dvds which have protection.
